Fire Destroys Texas Governor’s Mansion

Filed under: Misc. — Eric @ 9:15 am

History was destroyed here in Texas overnight as the Governor’s Mansion was overtaken by a massive fire.  This news just saddens me because of the history that has taken place in that home.

The home is a 150-year-old structure that stood proud at the top of the hill just to the south of the Texas Capitol Building.  When I lived in Austin, I often passed by it on my way to work as I had a job with a Texas Legislator.  Seeing the home always have “awed” me as much as the Texas State Capitol Building.

It was under renovations that has been reported in the $10 million dollar range.  If that is the case, then I hope all the  historical artifacts in the home were removed as well.

This is one piece of Texas Real Estate that would be hard to replace, and I hope that it can be saved for future generations to see.
